Daniel Bunworth

Founder & Coach

Hi, I’m Daniel. I’ve spent most of my life competing and enjoying all aspects that physical sports and fitness has to offer. However, through both teaching and coaching, I am starting to realise that the competitive nature and enjoyment extends through to the successes and accomplishments of my athletes!

The Teacher Background…

I have spent fifteen years as a primary school teacher, and that experience defines how I coach today. In the classroom, the "win" isn't for the teacher—it’s that moment a student finally grasps a difficult concept. I’ve brought that same passion into my fifteen years of sports coaching.

I am driven by the success of others—whether that is an everyday person mastering a new habit or a high-performance athlete perfecting their craft. My mission is to be more than a coach; I am a dedicated mentor in your corner, ensuring that every bit of hard work you put in leads to an achievement you once thought was out of reach.

Goal-Driven & Discipline-Led…

I know what it takes to reach a high bar because I’ve set them for myself. After retiring from a long career in Australian Rules football—playing and coaching in multiple local leagues and a stint in the VFL with Port Melbourne—I channeled that competitive energy into marathon running.

I’ve since completed three marathons and achieved a sub 3-hour personal best. I understand the discipline, the early mornings, and the mental grit required to hit a massive target. I bring that same standard to Apt Coaching, helping you build proactive resilience and the sustainable habits that last long after race day.

The balanced lifestyle…

While I am deeply goal-driven, I also know that the best training is the kind that fits into a full, happy life. That is why I put a high priority of the following, which is a reflection of that balance:

  • Family & Friends: My biggest priority is getting outside and having fun with my kids, family and friends whenever I am able to!

  • Always Involved: You’ll still find me on the sidelines—coaching, watching, and staying connected to the local sports scene.

  • In the Trenches: I’m currently back in training for the 2026 Melbourne Marathon, staying right there alongside my athletes.
